AIR DUCTS
At Branson Construction, we have noticed a lot of companies offering really cheap air duct cleaning, but when it comes to the results–i.e. making a difference to the efficiency of your heating and cooling system, a skin deep cleaning is unlikely to have much of an effect. A proper air duct cleaning requires professional tools and multiple workers spending several hours. According to the EPA, you should get your air ducts cleaned every 3-5 years, depending on the circumstances.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT CLEANING YOUR AIR DUCTS?
Primarily, you need to know “when” is the right time…let’s take a look at what circumstances call for a deep cleaning.
MOLD:
In Lake Jackson, TX and the surrounding area, you will find a lot of instances with humidity causing mold, and over-time, this can lead to allergies and health issues. If a visual inspection reveals black specks around the grille where the hot and cold air exit from, it is probably a good idea to get the ducts cleaned.
DUST:
Especially when remodeling your home, a large amount of dust and debris can get sucked into the system. When filters get clogged, efficiency goes down as the intake to the HVAC system has to work harder to bring in air. The coils that provide heating and cooling also collect dust reducing their heat transfer capabilities. The harder your HVAC system has to work, the sooner it will need to be replaced.
PETS:
Pet hair can accumulate in your system reducing efficiency and can also be the cause of allergies. It is also possible for animals to nest inside of air ducts leading to damage and other related issues.
SENSITIVITY TO ALLERGIES
When you have checked everything else, allergies can be caused by contaminants in the air ducts. A thorough cleaning eliminates this as a possibility.
